Luke 24:32 (NIV): "They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”
Last Sunday we saw two disciples of Christ walking to Emmaus with much disappointment after the crucifixion of Christ. They were in desperate need of the risen Christ to set their hearts ablaze again and He did!
Like the two disciples on the road to Emmaus, we get hit by the paralyzing effects of disappointments from time to time in our race of faith; but thanks be to God that the two disciples' encounter with Jesus shows us how we can keep our hearts' fire burning.
So what can we do to keep our hearts ablaze for Jesus?
1. By adding God's Word into the fire found in our hearts.
Luke 24:27 (NIV): "And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself."
Jesus took the time to explain the whole counsel of the Word of God concerning himself to the two disciples. Therefore, it is vital we keep meditating upon the Word of God and studying and applying the Word from Genesis to Revelation.
2. By adding God's presence into the fire found in our hearts.
Luke 24:28, 29 (NIV): "As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus continued on as if he were going farther. But they urged him strongly, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over.” So he went in to stay with them."
The two disciples could not let go of Jesus and urged him to stay with them; their decision secured their victory over disappointment!
Do we take every opportunity to stay in God's presence daily? It is vital we spend time alone with God daily, be present in small group meetings, prayer meetings and worship services as often as we can.
